Santa Fe Regional Airport
SAF is the closest commercial airport, southwest of the center. Service and rental-car inventory are more limited than Albuquerque, so compare the entire itinerary before choosing it.
Santa Fe Regional Airport (SAF), Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ), Rail Runner service, and I-25
Compare the closest airport with Albuquerque’s broader flight market, then choose a rental car, a Rail Runner arrival, or a central stay with selective rideshares.
Santa Fe and Albuquerque airports, Rail Runner, I-25, and northern New Mexico approaches
Compare Santa Fe Regional Airport, Albuquerque International Sunport, the Rail Runner, the Santa Fe Depot, I-25, Los Alamos, Taos, and the mountain edge before choosing a rental car or a central stay with selective rideshares. Map lines show regional connections rather than exact driving routes; use current directions, flight, rail, road, weather, and transit information before departure.

ABQ offers the broader flight market. Santa Fe is roughly an hour north by road in normal conditions, before traffic, weather, stops, or the final hotel approach.
The train links Albuquerque and Santa Fe, including the Santa Fe Depot in the Railyard. Check the current day-specific schedule; frequency and service span are not metro-level.
I-25 is the main Albuquerque approach. Winter weather, wind, construction, crashes, and major events can affect timing, while higher mountain roads demand separate condition checks.

Once in Santa Fe
The Plaza, central museums, restaurants, and much of Canyon Road can be reached on foot from a well-placed room. Museum Hill, Meow Wolf, the airport, ski area, and many trailheads are easier by car, rideshare, or current transit. Altitude, sun, uneven surfaces, and winter ice make apparent map distance only part of the walking decision.
